Putin has been quoted in the press as saying he is amenable to a peace deal. Now obviously, if one has any understanding of Putin the man, him saying that could be total bullshit. But at the same time, our government, as you know, has also historically been full of shit. I remember reading that sources said a peace deal was close back in March of 2022, but it allegedly fell apart because the US put pressure on Ukraine. So who do we believe? I think a diplomatic solution to war should always be on the table. At the beginning of this war, I said exactly what you and many others have said and continue to say: Putin cannot be negotiated with. But I’ve changed my view on that. I think he’s more rational than we give him credit. Both sides have to give up something. Concessions would have to be made. It could be done. But it doesn’t look like it’s even a possibility. I’m just skeptical about the idea that supporting Ukraine with essentially unlimited funds for however long it takes is the only solution. Something has to give, IMO. I guess we can respectfully agree to disagree.
