The more you try to be quiet in the middle of the night so as not to wake up your family members, the more prone you are to accidentally dropping a fork on the kitchen floor and having the sound reverberate through the quiet house and everyone waking up.

It’s July 2024. Long gone are the days of hearing “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth” by R.E.M. being played on the radio.

There was a former Red Sox pitcher at my son’s baseball game last week, supporting his friend’s son’s team (the other team). My wife said he got walloped in the back with a foul ball while crouching down to take a photo.

Is it taking it too far as a parent to start swearing if you’re losing in a video game to your eight year old and then your nearby five year old, enthusiastically rooting against you, starts parroting what you’re saying?

Life’s not about how many times you get knocked down, nor is it about how many times you get back up, because sometimes you just want to stay seated and eat a hot dog.

Neither is it about once-a-month photo dumps on Instagram.

Or Pickleball.

Or Somatic Therapy.

Or beige decor.
