I'll give you an example that relates to me. ME/CFS is the sister illness to Long-Covid. They look alike and many Long-Covid patients will go on to develop ME/CFS. A year ago or more, Congress allocated $1.5 billion for the research, study, and treatment of Long-Covid. Last month, I heard that most of the money was squandered and not much progress has been made. I'll just have to find the source on that, but I did read something about it on Twitter (w/ the sourced articles). If I'm completely wrong, then no matter because the point is, as you stated, the government wastes money and pays their inept employees too much money.
