I think it’s more groupthink and herd mentality. Outrage, microaggressions, and adult tantrums are trendy these days. I think people are afraid to be themselves for fear of getting ostracized by the very vocal group of people who make the unofficial rules online. It’s no longer about civility but about being outraged and emotional. There could be some laziness regarding critical thinking, but I think the real issue is conformity.
