I agree with your sentiments about optimism. It's a good message. However, I'm definitely not a believer of "everything happens for a reason." That's just our way of trying to make sense of the world. I guess I'm more understanding of the fact that things can just happen. We can ascribe whatever meaning we want to them, of course.
