How Did You Become Interested in Writing?
Tell me your story, and I’ll tell you mine
My interest in writing was founded back in grade school. I had a vivid imagination and a flair for creativity as a young child. It felt natural to think up stories, relate events, and describe my feelings by putting pen to paper.
I don’t recall a specific instance or event that shaped my enjoyment of writing. However, I remember being encouraged and nurtured by my English schoolteachers when it came to writing. Creative writing classes and exercises were always my favorite. It was an arena that allowed me to explore my creative and emotional side. Although at first, my writing felt forced due to the strict demands of my schoolteachers.
It was probably in part due to my rebellious nature that I resisted orders relating to school writing exercises and did not fully immerse myself in writing.
At some point, however, I finally yielded to my academic responsibilities and began to appreciate writing much more. That’s when I started writing for pleasure on my own. I wrote creative nonfiction stories, fictional short stories, and poems.
I’ve always enjoyed writing and continue to be excited by it today.
How about you? How and when did you become interested in writing?
